Basketball is a popular team sport within the Commonwealth, and is one of the optional Commonwealth Games sports. It was on the sports program for 2006, and will be back on the program in 2014.

Competition
- There is a competition for both men and women teams, consisting of two pools of four teams playing each other in a round-robin style tournament, before the two leading teams in each pool advance to the finals.
